General Criteria
We seek to partner with highly capable entrepreneurs whose talents and
experience will translate into successful ventures. Potential portfolio
companies should meet the following general investment criteria:
- Experienced
management team with an established record.
- Product or service
offering with a sound business model.
- A leadership
position in a growing market.
Industry Areas
Merck Capital Ventures seeks to invest in information-technology
companies to speed the communications between doctors, drug companies, and
patients in the pharmaceutical and health care industry. Specifically,
areas related to the commercialization, distribution and delivery of
pharmaceuticals and related health care services.
Stage of Investment
We invest in companies at various stages of development, from the first
round of institutional funding to later stage expansion opportunities. We
seek investments in which the risks associated with technology development
and market development are adequately addressed. Typically, these companies
will have on-going revenues from an existing product or service. We are
active, value-added investors and serve to accelerate sales adoption.
Preferred Investment Size
We seek to make investments that range from $3 million to $8 million,
with intent to participate in follow-on financing. However, we intend to
treat each investment as a separate opportunity and evaluate it on its own
merits.
Geographic Focus
United States
based and operated companies. However, we will consider non-U.S. companies
with significant U.S.
operations on a case-by-case basis.
